Bunnies and Chickees..

Good morning!

It’s almost Easter!!!

This year I’m looking for some different, unique Easter gifts, as opposed to the commercial Cadbury Bunny or Humpty Egg.  Don’t get me wrong; I LOVE the Humpty Egg!  But a mixture of this being our first Easter in the tropics, and my creative bug still lingering strong, has me searching for some crafty little gift ideas for our family and pals.

Check out a couple of funky ideas I’ve come across..

Funky Melted Crayon Eggs

  • white eggs
  • empty egg carton
  • crayons

Hard-boil white eggs. Remove them from the hot water with tongs or a slotted spoon, dry them, and rest them in an empty egg carton or on plastic bottle caps.

Color them with the crayons’ tips or remove the paper coverings and use the crayons’ sides. For a speckled effect, grate a crayon and sprinkle the bits over the eggs.

When you’re done coloring, leave them to dry for about an hour.

Beautiful Leaf Eggs (love!!!)

  • Small flat leaves (fern, dill, thyme, mint leaves)
  • Hard-boiled white eggs
  • Nylon stockings, cut into 3-inch-long sections
  • Rubber bands
  • Water
  • White vinegar
  • Food coloring
  • Large glasses, one for each dye bath (be sure they’re wide enough to hold an egg)

Lay a leaf on an egg, then cover it with a section of nylon stocking to hold it in place.

Pull together both open ends of the stocking, then twist the ends together and secure them with a rubber band.

For each dye bath, mix 1/2 cup warm water, 1 teaspoon vinegar, and 10 to 20 drops of food coloring in a glass. Carefully submerge the nylon-wrapped egg in the bath and let it soak for about 4 minutes.

Use a spoon to remove the egg from the dye bath and set it on a covered work surface. Carefully remove the rubber band, nylon, and leaf. Allow the egg to dry completely before further handling it.

The cutest Bunny Cupcakes!

  • A cupcake (baked from your favorite recipe)
  • White icing
  • Shredded coconut
  • Pink decorators’ sugar
  • Jelly bean nose
  • M&M or Bubblegum eyes
  • Large marshmallow
  • Mini marshmallows

Frost a cupcake (baked from your favorite recipe) with white icing and sprinkle on shredded coconut fur.

Cut a large marshmallow in half widthwise. Squeeze each half slightly to give it an oval shape, then decorate the sticky side of each one with pink decorators’ sugar and set them in place for ears.

Add a jelly bean nose and either jelly bean or M&M eyes, and mini marshmallows for cheeks. For a finishing touch, draw on decorators’ gel pupils or whiskers if you like.

*** If you have any ideas I’d love to hear them!!

Cha Cha, Honky Tonk or Jitterbug??

Good morning!

Today is my Friday!!

Husband and I are jumping on a big jet plane this afternoon and heading back to the big smoke for a whirlwind weekend of catching up with family and pals.  A few festivals and a girly roadtrip are even thrown in the mix!  Excitement is an understatement 🙂

The last 5 months living in our tropical paradise have been amazing ~ but one thing I have missed like no else: wearing lipstick!  Oh all the shades of pink and red and coral and maroon and nude ~ I just can’t wait to get my hands on a pretty lippy and not take it off until the weekend shenanigans are over!

In my excitement to get home and choose which shade will be my “just lounging on an airplane but still managing to look fresh as a daisy” colour, I’ve put together a quick selection of some gorgeous ladies who wear their lippy’s so perfectly.

Who do you think wear’s theirs best?

And of course ~ the incredible Marilyn Monroe and those scarlet lips xxx

Gimme gimme gimme……..a Black Milk Galaxy Purple swimsuit!!!

Through my addiction to online shopping and FB page browsing I’m always coming across new labels, new designers , new styles.  Some of these new finds stay in my mind for a few days, some for a few hours, and some will be forgotten about by the time I click “Like” on the next page.

Few labels rarely manage to keep my attention consistently ~ Black Milk Clothing however have.

Their fresh mix of eclectic designs, out of this world prints and willingness to go where no other designers dare to go, have me enchanted.

I will admit; I HAD given up on ever owning a piece of their delicious brand, due to the fact that I live in a tropical paradise and the only time I would be able to wear leggings would be at 2am in July  ~ however on further inspection I found that not only do they create amazing leggings, they also have an abundant range of dresses, swimsuits, skirts and even catsuits!

I am therefore saving my hard earned little pennies for one of these spell bounding swimsuits.

Friday morning daydreams…

Good morning sunshines,

I’m dreaming of another place this morning; somewhere far far away.  I don’t mind where I end up; I just wish the journey to be sweet..

Walking a path of sage flowers and yellow daffodils would just about melt my heart right now..

And how wonderful would it be to have this amazing secret garden hideaway ~ for day-dreaming the troubles away.

Happy Friday petals

When Carrot met Apple….

Long time no….post??!!

I’ve lost my mojo a little lately, and got so caught up in other happenings that I started forgetting about looking after myself!  This could be the result of a number of things going on in my life; husband starting a new job, trying to be there for my beautiful friends, getting this awful nauseous feeling in my tummy after every time I eat something (no I’m not pregnant), both our cars falling apart, planning our extra long weekend back in Perth in a few weeks, and basic astrology amping things up in the universe for me!

So I thought; what better way to drag myself out of the blues, then to make some fresh, healthy, delicious juices?

I like to get my trusty Breville juicer out every weekend and throw some apples, oranges, carrots, celery, tomatoes, and ginger all in together to make a lovely concoction.

But I think I need some new ideas, so I’ve done a little researching and come up with some of the best looking and easiest recipes to try.

So excited to try some of these this weekend!  Let me know if you have any lovely recipes that I can try out.

Juicer required:

Blueberry Cherry Juice

  • handful of cherries, pitted
  • 3/4 cup blueberries
  • 1 apple, cored and sliced

Process the fruit in a juicer and serve.

Surprising Sweety

  • 2 grapefruits
  • 1 thick slice of melon
  • 1 peach

You would never imagine that anything with grapefruit could be so sweet, let alone pack such an immune-boosting punch.  Process the fruit in a juicer and serve.

Apple Pie Juice

You can have your apple pie and drink it, too.

  • First sprinkle ½ tsp of cinnamon and ½ tsp of nutmeg into your home juicing machine.
  •  Then make apple juice with 4 large sweet apples and carrot juice with 1 large carrot (saving the pulp for sauce).
  •  You’ll end up with 2 cups of delicious apple pie juice that you can serve over ice.
  •  Drink immediately.

This juice is good for eyes, skin, hair, ulcers, regularity, detoxification, colds and flu.

 Pink Punch

  • 3 celery sticks
  • 2 apples
  • 1 handful raspberries
  • 3 sprigs fresh mint
  • 1cm ginger root

Process the fruit in a juicer and serve.

Sweet Potato Kiwi and Orange Smoothie

  • 1 large sweet potato
  • 3 kiwi fruit
  • 300ml  freshly squeezed orange juice

Wash the sweet potato and peel the kiwi fruits. Put the potato and kiwi fruit through a juicer. Add the (pre-juiced) orange juice and mix well.

 Blender required:

Soy and Saffron Smoothie

  • 450ml soy milk
  • 2 heaped tbsp runny honey
  • 1 large pinch saffron
  • 1 tbsp ground almonds
  • 1 tsp slivered almonds

Put the first four ingredients into a blender. Whizz until smooth. Serve with the slivered almonds floating on top.

***I can not wait to make this smoothie!!  Sounds delicious 🙂

Uber style crush: Sienna Miller xx

I go through stages of having many different Celebrity Style crushes – however a few will always remain an influence on me.

Sienna Miller ~ a whimsical, mysterious. amazingly beautiful actress/model, and advocate for humanitarian organisation International Medical Corps; is the epitome of effortless boho chic.

One of my most favourite movie roles of Sienna’s is playing the infamous muse of Andy Warhol; Edie Sedgwick, in Factory Girl.  I don’t think they could have chosen a more suitable actress; Sienna’s innocence, carefree blonde locks and “Poor Little Rich Girl” persona were a perfect match.

Hope you enjoy some of my favourite pics of her!

These pics make me want to dye my hair blonde again!  🙂

Happy Monday pals!!!

Hope you all had a splendid weekend!  It was such a beautiful weekend here; heaps of rain and very magical.   Lots of energy racing through the air!

I spent my weekend op-shopping with a pal, eating fish n chips down the beach in the rain, beading on the balcony with my bird on my shoulder, watching movies with hubby, and topped it off with ciders and nibbles down the beach.

I had such an inspiring, creative weekend that I thought I would share with you some of my Virtual Inspiration Board.  A collection of pics that I love ~ everytime I look at them my heart swoons and my feet get itchy.

BURNING MAN ~ oh how I want to go to Burning Man..

(don’t know if I would ever come back though!!)

Some of my rainy weekend creations…….Tiger Eye + Mookaite Foot-wraps…

Lana Del Rey……..such a mysterious little soul child!  Love.

Oh Lykke Li……….you amazing me..

This little baby is a sneaky behind shot of me and one of my loves Angel, at my “Arabian Nights” inspired Hens party in 2010..  Love xx

A spoonful (or 2) of Bi-Carb Soda, and a cup of Apple Cider Vinegar…..

Bi-Carb Soda and Apple Cider Vinegar……..ahhh you’re thinking ~ she must be baking??  Tending to her sun-burnt skin??  Cleaning up another red wine spillage??

Nope ~ I’m washing my hair!

Last night I whipped up a little home-made concoction for Shampoo + Conditioner…..and loved it!  It’s a bit of trial and error; I think I may have used a little too much Bi-Carb Soda, and should probably not have used such scorching hot water with the Vinegar 😉

This is my simple recipe; so basic that you can pretty much add anything you like to it to spruce it up!

  • 1/2 cup Bi-Carb Soda
  • 3 cups lukewarm water

Mix together well, and voila!  It’s ready to go..

  • 3/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 Ltr lukewarm water
  • Any natural essential oil that you wish to use, to help mask the scent of the vinegar.

Mix together well.  Use on the roots to wash any Bi-Carb Soda residue out, and then rinse through the ends also.

Note 1: I used Tinderbox Essential Lavender Oil (available at any good Health Food Shops, and made in the beautiful Balingup of South-West Oz), as it has an amazing strong scent to it, however I think next time I will try to find a natural Vanilla Oil or even Lemongrass Oil ~ they might mix better with the scent of the vinegar..

Note 2: I could vaguely smell the vinegar on my damp hair after the shower, however can not smell it at all now that its dry!

I will say that this was a massive change to my normal hair washing routine, particularly the part where I couldn’t for the life of me get a comb through my hair when it was still damp after the shower.  Instead, I used the trusty old Moroccan Hair Oil, wrapped it up in a bun, and this morning when I woke up it brushed out fine.

Also….watch this space for home-made natural ideas for Leave-in Hair Conditioners/Oils.

In case you didn’t believe me that my hair didn’t fall out or turn a manky green colour ~ see below 🙂

I’m loving it, my hair is super soft (think that’s the vinegar working it’s magic?) ~ let me know if you try it (or anything similar!)..

Mmmm fruity face scrubs – delicious enough to eat!

I found some absolutely scrumptious looking face scrub recipes yesterday; and can’t wait to try some of them out!  Completely natural, free of preservatives and chemicals, and so easy to make!  Can’t wait to try out this recipe:

Sweet Kiwi Facial Mask

Kiwi is rich in Vitamin A, E, C and citric acid making it helpful in the deep moisturizing of your skin and also increases your blood circulation. Kiwi also deep cleans your skin, washing off excessive oils and tightening pores. Nothing can be better than kiwi juice for your skin.

To Prepare: All you will need is 1 egg yolk, 1 tablespoon of kiwi juice and 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Mix the ingredients well and apply the mask to your face. Leave the mask on your face for about 10 to 15 minutes before wiping it off with a damp washcloth.
